SCC Forum a success

SCC Forum a success

On March 13, 2018, the Regina Board of Education hosted the School Community Council (SCC) Forum with Trustees. Originally scheduled to be held at the Division Office, a very high registration resulted in a last minute move to Campus Regina Public.

More than 150 community members, school based administrators and senior administration gathered with the trustees to talk about issues that are relevant to parents, schools and the SCCs that represent them.

Emceed by Terri Baldwin, Superintendent, School Services, the Forum featured greetings from the Chairperson of Regina Public Schools, Katherine Gagne who also took the time to introduce the new Creating Successful Outcomes Recognition Program.  Both the Forum and the recognition program are initiatives of the Board’s Community Relations Standing Committee.

Meeting participants broke out into four small group discussions that were facilitated by superintendents. . Among the issues discussed were:

  • The role of the SCC, as legislated by the Government of Saskatchewan
  • How does that role fit with SCC activities and school needs
  • SCC communications within one school community and with other SCCs
  • How to share successes and challenges with other SCCs
  • Fundraising and how to leverage opportunities.

Following the discussions, superintendents presented what their groups had shared to the larger group.

The unprecedented turnout of the Forum is welcome news to both the Board and Administration and it demonstrates interest in Regina Public schools and the communities that support them.

The great turnout also augurs well for the next public meeting and engagement.  Mark your calendars for the Mental Health & Anxiety Parent Forum on April 18, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Campus Regina Public. Guest Speaker will be Dr. Bruce Gordon. Click here for more details
